This dataset includes Particle-Size Distribution (PSD) data and multi-statistics derived from laboratory-based grain-size analyses in Mastersizer, conducted on samples collected during field campaigns between 2024 -2026 in the Tana/Teno River estuary and its adjoining tributaries.
The investigation aims to characterize the grain-size composition and textural characteristics of SPM samples and directly collected sediment samples to assess their spatial variability in the Tana/Teno River system. Sampling was conducted during the spring freshet and open-water season across the main channel of the Tana and its adjoining tributaries: Korselva (KO), Maskijoki/Masjoki (MK), Sukelva (SU), Kulpukanjoki (KP), and Harrijoki (HA).
The dataset consists of laboratory-based analyses of field samples:
• Grain-size analysis using Malvern Mastersizer 3000 particle-size analyser using laser diffraction;
• Particle-Size Distribution (PSD) data derived from Mastersizer measurement;
• Multi-sample sediment statistics calculated from PSD using GRADSITAT Software.
Materials analysed include SPM-derived material and Imhoff Sedimentation Cone-separated sediment samples collected directly. River water samples were collected, and SPM material was obtained from the water samples. Samples of 20 L were used to collect particles by gravitational settling in an Imhoff Sedimentation Cone. Bank samples were taken directly from the bank material.
The dataset provides information on sediment PSD, cumulative PSD, grain-size statistics and sediment textural characteristics of the analysed materials. These data can be used to compare sediment particle properties between sampling locations and sediment sources and to assess spatial variability in particle-size characteristics throughout the Tana River estuarine system.
