Local chronologies of wild cherry (Prunus avium L.) in Western Poland
All populations are located in Western Poland. Three populations (SC, SZ, and ST) are located in the zone of young glacial relief (the last phases of ice sheet stagnation), located below 200 m above sea level. Two populations (LW and JA) are located in the Sudetes Foothills (above 200 m above sea level) (Table 1). The studied trees grow along forest edges, along forest roads, or at the boundaries of forest compartments, often under the canopy of older trees. A total of 125 trees were sampled (23 to 26 per plot), yielding 196 measurement radii (29 to 46 per plot). In the laboratory, the samples were glued to boards, dried, and cut with a knife to obtain a clear image of the tree rings. Tree-ring width (TRW) was measured under a stereoscopic microscope with an accuracy of 0.01 mm using LDB_Measure software (2020). A total of 14,250 tree rings were measured.
The average tree ring width in the studied Prunus avium populations ranged from 2.18 to 2.87 mm/year (Table 2). Using well-established cross-dating methods, five local chronologies were compiled, spanning from 53 to 86 years. EPS values >0.85 are noted from 1970 to 2025 (Table 2).
Each chronology (5 chronologies) is stored in separate .csv file named signature of chronology (e.g. for SC chronology file named: SC chronology.csv); 1st column - year, 2nd column and next - tree-ring width of individual trees in mm (SC1, SC2, …), next column - local chronology in mm (Chronology SC), last column - number of samples in a given year.
