This dataset provides information related to the publication "Trust and distrust in electoral technologies: what can we learn from the failure of electronic voting in the Netherlands (2006/07), (https://doi.org/10.1145/3657054.3657262), published in the dg.o '24: Proceedings of the 25th Annual International Conference on Digital Government Research (669-677)
The data was collected during a fieldwork conducted in the Netherlands between August 16 and September 6, 2021. The aim of the visit was to collect qualitative data (in-depth interview with experts) about the events that occurred in the country in 2006 regarding the problems encountered with the use of Voting Computers. The background of the study visit was revisiting a well-known case (for the expert community) of electoral technology failure under the light of a new theoretical framework, and to extract the elements that relate to the creation of trust and distrust. In this well-documented case, citizens posited trust in an insecure system, and its management allowed for extracting new learnings that were further adopted in international electoral management.
