The data collected as part of an extensive research project concern the impact of three years of swimming training on selected somatic, physical, and motor variables in children aged 10–12. The study was conducted over three consecutive years—from autumn 2011 to spring 2014—with measurements taken every six months (six measurements in total). The experimental group consisted of 14 girls training in school sports clubs in Częstochowa, while the control group comprised 14 girls who participated only in mandatory physical education classes.
The attached raw data include: VC (vital capacity); FEV1 (forced expiratory volume in one second); FEV1/VC ratio (Tiffeneau index); Time of free apnea; 20-m Shuttle Run Test; body mass; body height; BMI; VO2max; and developmental age.
In both groups, body mass and height were measured using a scale with a stadiometer (WPT 150.0; RadWag; Poland). Respiratory volumes were measured using a VF-S spirometer (PELAB, Poland). Aerobic capacity was assessed using the maximal multi-stage 20-meter shuttle run test (commonly known as the beep test). The data were utilized in the article "Changes in respiratory system development and function under the influence of three-year aerobic training among pre-pubertal girls practicing swimming: a longitudinal study," which provides a detailed description of the data acquisition procedures.
