The study area are located in the Śnieżnik Massif (1426 m a.s.l.), Eastern Sudetes. The TS plot is located on a raised mountain peat bog – Sadzonki (50.2018433N, 16.8610533E, 1231 m a.s.l.), while the Owczarnia plot (OW, 50.2073508N, 16.8617694E, 1171 m a.s.l.) is located a short distance away on shallow mineral soil on a rocky substrate on an eastern-facing slope (13-170). Samples were collected using a Pressler borer from 53 trees, and 6 discs were obtained (Norway spruce, Picea abies (L.)). The tree-ring width was measured to the nearest 0.01 mm. Using classical cross-dating methods, two local chronologies were constructed (Table 1).
Chemical analyses included determining the content of Na, K, Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, and Zn in peat sediment samples and wood samples collected from a felled spruce tree growing in the Sadzonki peat bog until 2020. Peat was sampled using an "INSTORF" probe 50 cm long and 10 cm in diameter, and the resulting undisturbed sediment core was divided into 25 samples representing 2 cm core segments. A disc with reference number S4 was selected for chemical analysis of the wood. The wood samples contained 10 annual increments each, starting with the youngest, dating from 2020. A total of eight samples representing an 80-year period (1941-2020) were collected from the analyzed spruce wood.
A tree TS31 from Sadzonki raised bog was selected for isotopic analysis. Four samples were taken from this tree. After dating the annual growth rings, the three samples were sectioned into samples assigned to calendar years (from 1906 to 2023). The δ13C isotopic composition of the samples was determined by isotope ratio mass spectrometry using calibrated ion currents m/z 44.
