The research is based on qualitative interviews examining factors influencing the development of the cyber insurance market, including barriers and opportunities related to purchasing cyber insurance and the perception of cyber insurance among executives. The study involved 19 semi-structured interviews with experts from the insurance sector and representatives of companies involved in the purchase of cyber insurance.
Seventeen interviews were conducted and recorded by the authors, while two interviews obtained from publicly available online sources were used as secondary data. The interviews were conducted remotely in two stages. The first stage took place between October and November 2023 and included 11 interviews lasting from 28 to 60 minutes. The second stage was conducted in September 2024 and included 6 interviews lasting from 23 to 36 minutes.
The first group of interviewees consisted of experts operating in the insurance market, including brokers, underwriters, chief operating officers, directors, insurance company owners and professors specializing in insurance. The second group included representatives of companies involved in the purchase of cyber insurance, whose perspectives were used to validate and complement the views of insurance market experts. All interviewees were based in Poland and had experience cooperating with multinational companies.
The interviews were recorded and transcribed. Quotations used in the publications were translated into English, and the accuracy of the translations from Polish into English was verified. The interviews were analyzed using qualitative coding procedures (open, axial, and selective coding) supported by MAXQDA software.
The dataset shared in this repository includes the interview guide used in the study and a list of interviewees containing anonymized identifiers, job titles, industry affiliation and interview duration. Interview recordings and transcripts are not included due to confidentiality considerations.
