The set contain part of the data collected as part of the study entitled "Factors of international competitiveness and development of the Polish food industry". The food industry is a strategic sector of the economy, which is of great importance for economic development and social well-being. Due to the specific nature of market determinants, the competition between enterprises and industries is intense, and takes place on a broad international scale. The key objective of the project was to identify and assess the significance of the factors of international competitiveness and the development of Polish food industry (as perceived by representatives of food companies). The study was conducted using the telephone interview method, computer-assisted, conducted among representatives of food industry enterprises. The size of the research sample was 376 representatives of business entities. In accordance with the assumption, the target group included representatives of business entities whose activities were entered under section C of the PKD 2007. Industrial processing, Division 10. Production of food products and division 11. Production of beverages. The enterprises were located throughout Poland. The sample structure was dominated by those employing less than 10 people (82%). The second group consisted of small enterprises (14%). The smallest group consisted of medium and large enterprises (4%). The majority of the entities surveyed had at least twenty years of experience (75%). Nearly 16% of entities had been operating on the market for 10-20 years, and 9% for less than 10 years. The questionnaire used to conduct the study consisted of a personal data section and a main section. The first section asked about the characteristics of the enterprise. In the second section, respondents were asked about the impact of selected factors on the international competitiveness and development of the Polish food industry. The assessment was carried out on a Likert scale.
The presented set contains data on the part of the results that determined the impact of elements of competitive potential on the international competitiveness of food industry enterprises. The conducted research shows that intangible resources are of key importance, such as: timely deliveries, product quality, company image and relations with suppliers and customers. According to the respondents, the knowledge and experience of employees, knowledge of the market, flexibility of operation, efficient operational management, interpersonal relations within the company are also very important elements in building the competitiveness of food enterprises. The respondents attributed high importance in building international competitiveness to the organizational culture of the company, financial resources, and then quality management systems, and then human resources, building strong brands, resource efficiency, building marketing strategies, availability of staff on the market and the size, quality and modernity of the machinery park.
