The dataset contains measured and simulated output light intensities in a partial Mueller polarimeter. In used polarimeter the light source is a compact laser module by Thorlabs with a wavelength of 638.5 nm, combined with a fixed magnification beam expander by Thorlabs. The collimated light beam goes to a polarization state generator, composed of a Melles–Griot linear polarizer and Thorlabs LCVR (liquid crystal variable retarder). Then the polarized light passes through the test medium and goes to the PSA (polarization state analyzer), consisting of analogous components to the PSG, but arranged in reverse order. The intensity of the output signal is recorded by detector (averaged over its surface). Both polarizers are positioned at an azimuth angle of 0° and both LCVRs at an azimuth angle of 45°. Measurements were made for different azimuthal settings of the quater wave plate (Meadowlark Optics AQM-100-0630, working range 555-730 nm, θ=0°, γ=90°, Tf≈1, Ts≈1) from 0°÷90°, which were changed with a step of 5°. The data also includes the azimuth angle results obtained from calculations for the measured quarter-wave plate.
In addition, there are available simulations of intensities distorted by random error up to ±2%. Based on the obtained intensities, a nine-element matrix (without the third row and third column) and a 16-element matrix for dichroic medium (α=15°, θ=5°, γ=80°, Tf=0,9, Ts=0,7) can be generated.
Symbols:
α - azimuth angle,
θ - ellipticity angle,
γ - phase difference,
Tf , Ts - amplitude transmision coefficients ,
H - linearly, horizontally polarized light,
V - linearly, vertically polarized light,
A - linearly polarized light with the azimuth angle -45°,
D - linearly polarized light with the azimuth angle +45°,
R - circularly right-handed polarized light,
L - circularly left-handed polarized light.
Names of vaiables/files containing light intensity information should be interpreted according to the example:
IHV - output light intensity in the system of linear horizontal PSG and linear vertical PSA.
