The deposited data were collected as part of the research project entitled ‘Wpływ złożonej modyfikacji fizykochemicznej środowiska glebowego na mobilność metali, metaloidów i herbicydów - badania laboratoryjne’, eng. ‘The impact of complex physicochemical modification of the soil environment on the mobility of metals, metalloids and herbicides - laboratory tests’, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland as part of the project under the OPUS 21 call (project no.: (2021/41/B/NZ9/03059).
The main objective of the research was to perform the impact of the goethite modification of poly(acrylic acid) or chitosan on its adsorption capacity toward selected impurities (copper ions, phosphate ions, and diuron) and aggregation. This study attempted to coat goethite with two polymeric substances of different properties and origins to explore new potential soil conditioners or adsorbents for contaminated surface or groundwater treatment. The presence of the polymer may also stimulate the aggregation of goethite with adsorbed impurities, which is desirable during the purification of aqueous systems.
The research was conducted in the period from 1st December 2022 till 1st February 2023 at the Institute of Agrophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lublin (Poland) as well as Department of Chemistry, Division of Physical Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb (Croatia). The collection contains the results of studies on the characteristics of goethite, adsorption/desorption capacity of the goethite and modified goethite by polymers towards to copper ions, phosphate ions, and diuron in single and mixed system, and evaluation of stability of goethite suspension with and without polymers.
The attached files have been compressed to *.zip format. The dataset consists of the following files:
1) sorption and effects – raw data on the determination of adsorption/desorption capacity of goethite with and without polymers (.xlsx, .jpg, .pdf).
2) stability, zeta, nitrogen – raw data on the measurements of stability and zeta potential values of the goethite suspension with and without polymers as well as textural parameters of goethite (.xlsx, .txt).
The data was compiled on the basis of laboratory tests.
The results presented in file „sorption and effects” were obtained using the following research equipment: high–pressure liquid chromatography (Ultimate 3000, Dionex), an atomic absorption spectrometer (contrAA 900, Analytic Jena), spectrophotometer UV/Vis (Jasco V-530), ion chromatography (ICS-1100, Dionex), scanning electron microscope (Phenom ProX, Pik Instruments), infrared spectrometer with Fourier transformation (FTIR, Thermo Scientific), energy dispersive X-ray analyser (EDX-7200, Shimadzu).
The results presented in file „stability, zeta, nitrogen” were obtained using the following research equipment: a nitrogen adsorption/desorption analyzer 3Flex (Micromeritics), ZetaPlus (Brookhaven Instruments Corporation), UV–Vis spectrophotometer (Jasco V-530).
