The deposited data were collected as part of the research project entitled ‘Wpływ złożonej modyfikacji fizykochemicznej środowiska glebowego na mobilność metali, metaloidów i herbicydów - badania laboratoryjne’, eng. ‘The impact of complex physicochemical modification of the soil environment on the mobility of metals, metalloids and herbicides - laboratory tests’, financed by the National Science Centre, Poland as part of the project under the OPUS 21 call (project no. 2021/41/B/NZ9/03059) as well as by the project “Efficiency of erosion control agrotechnologies for improvement of soil quality and water regime and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions”, financed by the National Science Fund (project no. КП-06 H 46/1 2020).
The main objective of the research was to determine the impacts of additives of various origin and composition on Polish (Eutric Cambisol) and Bulgarian (Epicalcic Chernozem) soils. Physicochemical and hydrophysical parameters including pH, variable surface charge, porosity, specific surface area, wettability, sorption capacity relative to trace metals, and water retention of soils were taken into account. A comprehensive assessment of the validity of using popular soil additives (natural and synthetic zeolite, zeolite-carbon composite, fly ash, biochar, vermicompost, divergan) in a real context was made.
The research was conducted in the period from 1st April 2022 till 20th October 2023 at the Institute of Agrophysics, Polish Academy of Sciences in Lublin (Poland) as well as Nikola Poushkarov Institute of Soil Science, Agrotechnology and Plant Protection in Sofia (Bulgaria). The collection contains the results of studies on characteristics of soil modifiers, the changes occurred in the soils after modification as well as sorption mechanism of cadmium (Cd) ions on soils, modifiers and soil-modifier mixtures.
The attached files have been compressed to *.zip format. The dataset consists of the following files:
1) Cd_adsorption – raw data on the determination of adsorbed amount of Cd ions on modifiers, soils and soils enriched with additives/modifiers (.xlsx).
2) Characteristics_of_modifiers_and_soils – raw data on the measurements of nitrogen adsorption/desorption, morphology (SEM), wettability (contact angle) and surface charge of modifiers as well as wettability, pH, nitrogen adsorption/desorption, surface charge, carbonate content and organic matter of soils (.xlsx, .jpg, .tiff)
3) Modification_impact_on_soil – raw data on the measurements on nitrogen adsorption/desorption, surface charge, hydrophysics (aeration capacity, hydroscopic water content, plant available water capacity, relative field capacity, saturated conductivity, index of Dexter, particle density, total porosity, wilting points), pH and wettability of soils with modifiers (.xlsx).
The data was compiled on the basis of laboratory tests.
The results presented in file „Cd_sorption” were obtained using an ion-selective electrode (Detektor s.c. – Electrochemical Equipment).
